Making a Silver Fir safer!

We recently undertook work on a 40m high Silver Fir. Neighbouring trees were blown over and this left the tree above the surrounding canopy and exposed to future storms which could have caused a lot of problems.

The solution was to retain the tree within an acceptable level of risk with a 30% crown reduction leaving a viable tree of stature but with far less ‘wind sail’ and a lot less susceptible to future storms. This meant some serious climbing but a job well done in the end!

Storm Damage on Bere Island

It’s been an unprecedented Winter of storms and now with what they are calling ”The Beast from the East” and Hurricane Emma there seems no let up.

A few months back we were in throes of Hurricane Ophelia and in the aftermath of that we were called out to Bere Island where we dismantled a huge Monterey Pine and Monkey Puzzle, that shed large limb systems during Ophelia damaging an altar and demolishing a big Celtic cross.

We dismantled them both to ground level without damaging any extra underlying headstones. It was the end of an era on Bere Island as the trees had stood there for as long as anyone could remember.

It’s been a rough Winter for everybody and we might not be out of the woods just yet! … there could be more bad weather in store for us …

With the stormy weather comes a lot of destruction to trees and to help to counteract this we provide an emergency tree care service, available 7 days a week.
